Nanwakolas Council First Nations Resource Opportunities Conference – May 3-5, 2010

Dallas Smith, President, Nanwakolas Council and Honourable George Abbott, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Reconcilliation are co-hosting the second annual First Nations Resource Opportunities Conference, May3rd to 5th, 2010 in Nanaimo, BC.

This two day conference and trade show will bring First Nations, the resource sectors and government together for two full days of talks and presentations focused on sharing the numerous success stories related to mutually beneficial relationships.

The conference is significant in that it will play a key role in encouraging positive dialogue and fostering progressive and productive relations between governments, First Nations and the resource sectors to gain insights and an awareness of the many opportunities that exist to develop progressive relationships that deliver benefits and certainty.

Dallas Smith says “The conference will provide the opportunity to meet the people from mining, minerals, forestry, power production, aquaculture and tourism who have worked together with First Nation communities to form mutually beneficial, economically sound agreements and to meet the government representatives who support and foster resource development agreements between First Nations and the resource sectors. It is also an ideal opportunity to learn more about how development projects between First Nations and the various resource sectors can and should be structured.”

“This conference is an excellent opportunity for business, First Nations and government to build relationships, exchange ideas and create partnerships in B.C.’s diverse resource sector” says, Honourable George Abbott.

This year we are pleased to offer on May 3 the very instructive Working Effectively with Aboriginal Peoples™ course, taught by Bob Joseph, founder of Indigenous Corporate Training Inc.  This course has not been offered to the public on Vancouver Island for a number of years.

The conference opens with an Ice Breaker event, 7 pm – 9 pm May 3rd, 2010 at the stunning new Vancouver Island Conference Centre in the heart of old town Nanaimo. A silent auction to raise funds for the Stan Hagen Memorial Education Bursary Fund will take place during the conference.

Please plan to join us for the First Annual Nanwakolas Corporate Golf Challenge May 3rd at the lovely Fairwinds Golf Course in Nanoose, BC. Golf Challenge tickets include lunch buffet and prizes.
