Yukon First Nations Resource Opportunity Conference
March 23-25, 2010
Whitehorse, Yukon
Premier Denis Fentie and Grand Chief Andy Carvill are co-hosting the Yukon First Nations Resource Opportunities Conference, March 23rd to 25th, 2010 in Whitehorse, Yukon.
This two day conference and trade show will bring First Nations, the resource sectors and government together for two full days of talks and presentations focused on sharing the numerous success stories related to mutually beneficial relationships.
The conference is significant in that it will play a key role in encouraging positive dialogue and fostering progressive and productive relations between governments, First Nations and the resource sectors to gain insights and an awareness of the many opportunities that exist to develop positive relationships that deliver benefits and certainty.
Grand Chief Andy Carvill says “The conference is an ideal opportunity to meet and learn more about First Nations, our culture, our heritage and our relationships with the land and resources. It is also an ideal opportunity to learn more about how development projects between First Nations and the various resource sectors can and should be structured.”
Jerry Asp, Conference Co-Chair, says “The conference will provide many unique opportunities to learn best practices and techniques to work in a cooperative and beneficial manner, and explore best practices in economic development and partnerships between First Nations, governments and the resource sector.” Asp went on to say “The conference will explore processes for developing and implementing impact-benefit agreements, joint ventures and resource sharing partnerships.”  For further information: Jerry Asp, Conference Co-Chair, at 867-633-3857 or 604-219 3903
