Canada

Canada Job Grant (CJG)

The Canada Job Grant (CJG) is a Canadian government funding program designed to reduce the costs of providing third-party skills training to new and existing employees. Launched in 2014, the Canada Job Grant allocates upwards of $194M annually to support the upskilling of new and existing employees so that they can learn new skills and become more valuable to their organization. The CJG maintains a provincial stream for each province and territory, except for Québec, and each individual stream has varying funding amounts, eligibility criteria and application deadlines.

British Columbia

B.C. Employer Training Grant (ETG)

Ryan Canadian Government Funding

  • Access training grants for up to 80% of eligible costs to a maximum $10K/trainee receiving third-party training up to $300K per fiscal year.
  • Businesses and organizations located in British Columbia that meet requirements can apply.
  • Training is relevant to the immediate needs of the business and participant’s job, and creates an impact for the trainee.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with funding decisions typically decided 60 business days from the date of application.

Indigenous Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility Training

Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM)

The intent of this funding stream is to support eligible applicants to enhance cultural safety and humility in the delivery of local emergency management programs and services.

The application deadline for 2024 was November 1st but hopefully intake will open soon for 2025.

Urban Communities Partnering for Reconciliation (UCPR)

Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM)

Eligible Indigenous organizations and local governments seeking to create opportunities for in-person dialogue and relationship-building that support the advancement of collaborative reconciliation plans, protocols, agreements, or future initiatives.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024/25 open intake. Funding permitting, eligible applicants may submit one application between September 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025.

B.C. Employer Training Grant

WorkBC

The B.C. Employer Training Grant provides financial support to businesses of all sizes—small, medium, and large—to help them invest in skills training for their current employees and potential new hires. This program aims to equip British Columbians with the necessary skills to meet evolving job market demands, while actively involving employers in workforce development. By funding a portion of the training costs, the grant helps employees secure better job opportunities or improve job stability. Employers can apply multiple times and receive up to 80% of training costs, with a maximum reimbursement of $10,000 per employee and an annual cap of $300,000 per employer.

Provides funding for programs aimed at improving cultural safety in health services for Indigenous communities. The type of funding instrument provided by FNHA varies depending on the nature of the organization and the specific work to be undertaken.

Alberta

Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG)

  • Up to 66-100% of up to $10,000-$15,000 in employee training costs per trainee.
  • Businesses and organizations located in Alberta that meet requirements are eligible to apply.
  • Most training programs qualify for the CAJG funding, but businesses may choose to focus on one of the specific training categories.

Application packages are accepted year-round, so employers should apply for funding in accordance with their expected training start date.

Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI)

Alberta Municipal Affairs

Provides funding for municipalities, which may include capacity-building and staff training in areas like diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness.

Eligible operating projects include:

  • capacity-building activities that improve efficiency or effectiveness
  • municipal services
  • planning activities
  • assistance to non-profit organizations

Saskatchewan

  • To qualify for the Canada-Saskatchewan Job Grant (CSJG):
    • Employers must be Saskatchewan-based SME with $2M liability insurance.
    • A chosen trainee must be a resident of Saskatchewan, permanent Canadian citizen, or granted refugee status.
  • CSJG grants offset up to 66% of eligible expenses for business training programs focused on advancing skills in areas such as communication, leadership, project management, technology, software, marketing, sales, safety, planning, and much more.

Multicultural Initiatives Fund (MIF)

SaskCulture

Project Funding aims to advance cross-cultural understanding and support work that aligns with the principles of Truth and Reconciliation in Saskatchewan by supporting projects encouraging people to share, learn, appreciate and respect cultural diversity. Applicants can apply for a maximum of $15,000 of project costs.

Eligible Applicants include:

  • Registered Non-Profit organizations in Saskatchewan.
  • be a First Nation, Tribal Council, Métis Local or Municipality.

Organization must have a registered charitable number from Canada Revenue Agency or be a qualified donee to apply for a Community Grant.

Multicultural Grants Program

Government of New Brunswick

The Multicultural Grants Program supports community partners that promote respect, inclusion, and diversity in New Brunswick.

Applications for the 2024–2025 fiscal year will open on April 1, 2024. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Initiatives showcasing newcomer community experiences.
  • Programs addressing settlement and integration processes.
  • Efforts that identify and combat racism.

Workplace Skills Training

Workplace Skills Training is a program developed for employers to train new or existing employees to develop their skills and align with the needs of the business. The employer determines the type of training and who will participate. Training must be short-term and meet job-specific and incremental industry requirements of the organization

Eligible employers include:

  • Registered private sector businesses;
  • Organization acting on behalf of a group of employers (e.g. employer consortia, industry associations and sector council businesses);
  • Band/tribal councils;
  • Non-profit organizations.

Cultural Communications Program

Government of Nunavut

This program offers funding to individuals, non-profit organizations, and municipal corporations actively involved in preserving, showcasing, and promoting culture through communication initiatives in Nunavut. It supports a diverse range of cultural communication activities across various mediums. Examples of supported initiatives include radio shows, web series, youth mentoring programs, on-the-land activities, and information or consultation projects.

Yukon

Creative and Cultural Career Advancement Fund

Government of Yukon

The Creative and Cultural Career Advancement Fund provides support to people working in the creative and cultural sectors. This fund helps advance their careers over a period of up to one year.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be actively involved in the creative and cultural industries within the Yukon.
  • Have been residents of the Yukon for at least three consecutive years prior to the application deadline.
The application deadline is May 15, at 4:30 p.m.
