Norman Doerksen
Trainer/Speaker
Raised in the Coast Salish Territory, Norman has European and Métis Ancestry from Treaty 6 Territory in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. As a young man learning more about his family this journey brought curiosity and reflective clarity about his family. This led to the foundational development of a local Métis community with years of growth and development. Norman continued contributing to this budding community as an elected community leader, board member and local event facilitator. With a heart for community development and service Norman has respected the privilege it is to work with and within many indigenous communities.
Norman has an extensive background, with over 25 years in the public administration/services-related industry including natural resource initiatives, risk/asset management and conflict resolution. He has also had the great honour of working with Indigenous Communities on infrastructure and housing programs. Norman is passionate about education and community engagement to further self-determination within the community. He has worked with students and Indigenous knowledge keepers to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards through hands-on projects and educational initiatives.
Married for 34 years and having raised three grown children, Norman is a proud family man and has continued to share his cultural traditions and values with his extended family. He has always strived to create opportunities for many young people in his life by demonstrating skills and offering mentorship. His love of the outdoors provides relaxation, connection and contentment in being with the land.
